Healthy Desserts to Eat
Try these ideas for a healthy desserts to eat. Take a banana and cut in half. Put a popsicle stick in it and roll it in peanut butter and then in crushed nuts of your choice. Put in freezer and you have a nice healthy dessert just for you! Another healthy snack would be dipping the banana in almond bark. Just enough chocolate to give your tastebuds a treat but not so much the calories!

Was Yours a Traditional or Nontraditional Holiday Dinner?
A few of our friends and family decided to go nontraditional for their holiday dinner. Trying to eat healthy and still watching our budget, I would say is nontraditional. It can be a challenge but can be done. Just takes a little more forethought.
We did go traditional on Christmas but we made use of every leftover. We baked the turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, yams, green bean casserole, hamburger cheese dip and on and on. We put back several cups of turkey and made turkey pot pie and with the leftover mashed potatoes and cheese dip we made shepherds pie. Making pie crust mix ahead of time sure helped on this day! But for New Years we had a huge roast with potatoes and baby carrots. No sweets that day since we had plenty on Christmas.
I have put my vitamix to a lot of use in the last month, grinding wheat, making pies, bread, ice cream. One of the secrets to food that is better for you is making it from scratch so that you know what is in it. For instance, I can choose what kind of sweetener to put in my ice cream and how much. This makes it nice for my husband since he is diabetic. I will probably be doing more experimenting this next year in sweeteners.
Like everyone else my new years resolution is to lose weight, eat healthier and so on. To that I will add, I want to lose weight, eat healthier, make healthier desserts and not hurt my pocketbook doing it! Happy New Years!
