Yes, you read right!
Are you craving something sweet? But still want to eat something good for you? Try beets. Yeah I know. A vegetable that comes out of the ground? But think about this. Some of your sugar comes from beets. You know that white stuff that tastes so sweet and good in your desserts? I juiced some beets one day and was pleasantly surprised.
They are loaded with potassium, magnesium, beta carotene, and folate. These nutrients help fight cancer, good for the heart, helps blood pressure, your bones, and even helps in weight loss! You can put them in cakes and other baked goods also.

No-Bake Confections

3/4 cup honey
1/4 cup carob powder
1/3 cup buttermilk
pinch salt
1/2 cup peanut butter
3 cups rolled oats
1 1/2 cups grated, unsweetened coconut
3/4 cup grated coconut for rolling.

In a saucepan, combine the honey, carob, buttermilk, butter, and salt, and boil for one minute. Remove from heat and add peanut butter, blending thoroughly. Add oats and 1 1/2 cups coconut, stirring well. Cool to workable temperature. Form dough into balls about 1 inch size. Roll balls in 3/4 cup coconut and place on wax paper. Chill and store in refrigerator. Makes about 5 dozen.

Or have you ever tried those 'Boston Cream Pie' yogurts spread on top of a graham cracker? Or spreading peanut butter on a slice of fresh apple? You can go a step further and roll the apple rolled in peanut butter and then rolled in chopped nuts.

This is something I did when my kids were little. I would cut a banana in half and put a popcicle stick in it. Roll it in peanut butter or almond bark and then nuts. Freeze it. Then they would have a healthy SWEET TREAT!

Grapes! Not only are they good in jam, but they are good fresh!

These are anti-oxidant rich, and protect you from heart disease and cancer. They have fiber, small amounts of vitamins, and important minerals like potassium, calcium, manganese, and iron. You can eat them fresh, as jam, drink them in wine, and don't forget the raisins. Grapes can conquer your kidney stones, enhances blood flow, and saves on your eyesight (red grapes especially). There are all different kinds of grapes but are classified as red or white. There are all colors from green to almost black. Try them all. They will keep about a week in your refrigerator. 2 cups of grapes (approximately 30 grapes) is about 120 calories and makes a wonderful and as you can see a 'powerpacked' snack!

3 things you should know about HEALTHIER DESSERTS

1. When you use healthier, organic, natural ingredients, your finished dessert will most likely be lower in fat, less sugar, and surprisingly delicious.
2. Prepare yourself in times when it will be tempting to eat "not so good for you" pastries and such by either having healthier desserts that you have prepared in the freezer or maybe some you have bought. You can even make your own health food bars to take with you for these times.
3. Don't be fooled by low fat either. Most people have a tendency to overeat on these because they are just not filling or even satisfying.

Got a favorite recipe? Can't give up that chocolate? Or think you can't live without sugar? Sometimes to make a HEALTHIER DESSERT, you just need to change your favorite recipe with wholesome ingredients (by that I mean organic or whole wheat), or using less sugar, honey, etc.makes all the difference you need. My daughter-in-law makes an apple cake that is out of this world! But with my husband being diabetic I have to change things a bit. By using stevia or xzylitol in it, he can eat it and it still tastes wonderfull! Granted I had to experiment with the recipe to get it to taste right for our taste buds. Check this HEALTHIER DESSERT cookbook out for already tried and true recipes.

Why not try HEALTHIER DESSERTS?

Years ago our ancestors made up healthy recipes to get their children to eat the things that were good for them like ginger. Ginger aids digestion and enhances the blood flow, even helps nausea or carsickness. So now we eat gingerbread cookies, candies, etc. But down through the years more and more sugar got added and then replaced with corn syrup. Plus white flour was put in place of whole wheat. Eating HEALTHIER DESSERTS can be daunting but it can be done with a little plan of action and a determination on your part. Best of all the rewards are twofold. You enjoy your sweets and eat healthier in the process. And if you lose a few pounds too, that would be a bonus! In order to feel better, look better and be all around healthy, fruits would be first in order on your sweets list. But if you're like me, I like the fruit but I also like the crust that's in the pie and the batter that's in the muffins etc. etc. ...if you know what I mean. What happens when you eat healthier desserts?

One more reason to eat naturally healthy desserts!

They are sooo good!
4. Sometime people or even children don't care for fruit by itself but with the fruit being in the dessert they will eat it. Fruits are high in vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
Try this recipe. One of my favorites!

Why you should eat naturally delicious healthy desserts

3 things you should know about Naturally Healthy Desserts

I love to eat desserts. Somedays I'd like to skip the main course and just go to the desserts. When I was young I could do this but now since I'm older, wiser and uh..yeah a few pounds heavier I started a search for naturally delicious HEALTHY DESSERTS.
1. Obviously, one reason would be because they are healthy and low calorie. But for me it just means I could eat a HEALTHY DESSERT and not have that sense of guilt after I've eaten something so decadent.

I have tried the so called low-fat desserts and I end up eating more than what the serving should be. In fact I've been known to eat a whole box of low-fat cookies only to read the box and see how many calories and salt that was contained in them and weep!

2. Sometimes people have special diets,i.e. gluten free, diabetic, etc. My husband is diabetic and I have to be very careful about sweeteners or anything that will raise his blood sugar level.

3. Raising young children up on HEALTHY DESSERTS is an excellent way of helping them to be healthy when they grow up avoiding heart disease, weight problems, diabetes, etc. In 2007 over 168,000 people under the age of 20 was diagnosed with diabetes. This alone should perk our ears up as mothers and grandmothers to avoid these pitfalls.
